Electoral disinformation: Anticipation, expectations soar munities to the pre-report presentation in Yaoundé
Representatives of civil society and media professionals, among others, revealed their expectations during the official presentation of the preliminary report on major disinformation trends and electoral narratives in Cameroon.
Civil society representatives, academics, media practitioners, and officials from ministries have gathered this morning, September 1 2025, for the official presentation of a pre-report on disinformation and electoral narratives in Cameroon.
For participants, the stakes could not be higher. “As a humanitarian worker, i came to understand how misinformation is shaping the upcoming polls and what solutions we can realistically apply,” said Meyene Mendi, society activist from Greenpeace Africa as he checked in at the registration desk.
Journalists, who have long struggled with the spread of false content online, hoped the gathering would provide practical tools for their work. “We are constantly fact-checking on the fly. I am eager to see how this new toolbox might make that task easier for us to detect which is hate speech and how to diligently go about our duties especially at this crucial period ,” noted Hycenth Chia, a journalist from Canal 2.
The event was not only marked by professional concerns but also by the sense of civic duty.
